Cornerstone Competition

The Cornerstone Competition celebrates the contributions our students make to the social missions of prominent non-profit organizations serving Orlando and the central Florida region.

Each year approximately 2500 business students work approximately 50 hours each as social entrepreneurs engaged in helping those in need. Our students complete approximately 400 projects each year with an economic impact of well over $1 million dollars (including funds raised, donations acquired, and labor contributed). This initiative by the UCF College of Business Administration is one of the world’s largest social entrepreneurship service learning initiatives.

These projects provide students with opportunities to practice foundational skills related to entrepreneurial thinking, communication, teamwork, diversity, creativity, ethics, and change that are the focus of the Cornerstone course. Overall, UCF’s social entrepreneurship service learning projects teach students how to employ processes such as opportunity recognition, resource mobilization, and value creation to address social issues in innovative and sustainable ways.

Through a process of thoughtful engagement and civic reflection, our course objectives are designed to help students achieve an understanding of social entrepreneurship principles, develop skills to be effective citizen leaders and community practitioners, and demonstrate competency in entrepreneurial and professional skills through the successful completion of deliverables that meet genuine community needs.
